Can you please explain to me the difference between the CM-TCS and the CM-TCS-REMOTE? I see that one has a receiver, one doesn't. Is a receiver necessary?

A receiver is necessary if you have a fan that does not come equipped with a receiver. A receiver is what receives the signal sent and turns the fan on and off.
The CM-TCS http://www.arcadianlighting.com/cm-tcs.htmlhttp://www.arcadianlighting.com/cm-tcs.html is the handheld unit and the receiver box that is fixed into the electronic compartment of your fan and is the unit you would need if you have a regular fan that is operated either by a wall switch or by pull strings.
The CM-TCS-Remote http://www.arcadianlighting.com/cm-tcs-remote.html is the REMOTE ONLY. This is ordered when the handset portion of the CM-TCS lost or broken.
