Questions and Answers

  • I am interested in purchasing Craftmade 56" Argos Traditional Ceiling Fan - CM-AG56-AG. I know that I am to choose my blades as an extra. I need a hand held remote only. What product do I order and how is it installed? This would replace an existing fan, with no remote, that was installed on a beam in a ceiling with height of 16'. I would also need to purchase a 3' downrod to match. What would I order for the downrod? I believe that the light kit is included with the fan.

Craftmade (the manufacturer) advised that the handheld unit meant for the Argon fan has been discontinued but you can use the Universal Remote system on the fan model# CM-UC-2000. The receiver does need to be installed inside the canopy (round hardware that goes over your junction box and is flush to ceiling). One thing to keep in mind is that this remote system does not have a REVERSE function on it. Ceiling fan blades are a separate purchase but the light kit is included. You can use a coupler and combine a 24" length and 12" length together to get your 36".

Thanks for your prompt reply. I'm not sure about installing the remote. As stated before, the previous fan was installed on a beam. All that is there now, is a metal plate...possibly the canopy...with wires protruding. Is this where the receiver would be placed? If so, I am okay. If not, then I am not sure how it would mount on this beam.

Hello Melinda, What the canopy covers is the standard 4" junction box which is normally what is up in the ceilings (it is a small box that houses all of the electrical wires coming from your ceiling). If you say you had an existing fan in that location then you should be able to replace it with a new one. Unfortunately I am not a trained electrician so I am not too sure how to hook up all of the wires. From what you are describing I am assuming you might have a shallow junction box mounted on a beam and if you are just changing out one fan for another I can not foresee you having any difficulties. If you are not too sure about the installation you might want to contact your electrician. I have provided a link that has a helpful little diagram for how to install ceiling fans and points to the canopy. The canopy is where you are going to place the receiver which will send the signal to your hand-held remote control. http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/learning/how-to-install-a-ceiling-fan.aspx
