The main purpose of an indoor step light is for safety. Indoor step lights are installed along steps to provide you with light so that you can see where you step when walking up or down the stairs. Styles

Indoor step lights are either recessed or canister mounted. The lamping may be compact fluorescent, incandescent, LED or Xenon. The two most common styles of indoor step lights are those with louvered covers and those with opal lens faces. Step lights with louvered covers direct a bright light beam downward directly toward the steps. Opal lens step lights also shine light directly on the steps, however, the light is dimmable and therefore, the light emitted is much more subtle that that from step lights with louvered covers. Indoor step lights are available in horizontal or vertical configurations. These lights are designed with various finishes, including architectural bronze, brushed nickel, ivory and white. Some indoor step lights are made with energy-saving photocell, a technology that allows the light to turn on at night and off during the day.

Applications

Indoor step lights are generally installed along the wall beside each step. However, indoor step lights may also be installed along the walls of a hallway.
