Design Tips:

  • Reflective surfaces, such as mirrors and tiles help to bounce light around the corners of a bathroom.
  • Aside from general lighting in the bathroom, opt to install wall sconces on either side of a mirror for task lighting for shaving or applying or removing makeup.
  • Install wall sconces at eye-level. Approximately 66" inches from the floor is the standard guideline.
  • Cast an even beam by positioning the wall sconces so the horizontal beams overlap (usually 28" to 40" apart).
  • Vanity lighting should be lit with a minimum of 150 or 200 watts. Adjust the lighting as needed using lower wattage bulbs or installing a dimmer.
  • Save energy and increase lamp life by installing light with a dimmer, which can also change the atmosphere in your bathroom.
Different kinds of bathroom lighting are available to suit your needs. Bathroom lights are not only beautiful, but are functional as well. Bathroom lights may be installed above the mirror, on each side of a mirror or on the ceiling, depending on your needs. Sometimes, especially in a large bathroom, you’ll find all three of these lights to provide you with just the right amount of light needed.

Styles

Bathroom lights are available in a multitude of styles and finishes. Some bathroom light styles are transitional, modern/contemporary, traditional or rustic. Depending on the type, bathroom lights may have one, to as many as 12 lights per fixture, such as with bathroom light bars. Applications

Applications for bathroom lights vary depending on the type of light. Ambient lighting, such as those installed in the center of the ceiling, provides general illumination in the bathroom. Task lighting, such as the use of wall sconces on each side of a mirror are used in addition to ambient light facilitate specific tasks, such as washing your face or brushing your teeth. Ambient bathroom lighting on the other hand is great for giving an overall illumination that is both flattering and provides necessary brightness. Give yourself the ability to determine the brightness by using a dimmer for ambient lighting. Wither it be task, ambient, or accent lighting, choosing a blend of fixtures, (pendants, sconces etc.) help give a soft diffused ambiance.
