Tips for Organizing and Decorating a Home Office Space
Friday, January 6th, 2012The use of a home office will vary from person to person: some work from home, others use it as a space to pay bills while others use it as a space for crafting. This also means that everyone has different needs in terms of home accessories and decor. Everyone has a different style and everyone uses their office differently, so this should be reflected in the home decor. Here are a few tips and tricks for organizing, decorating and choosing home accessories for your home office space.
Look for Beautiful Storage Solutions
A home office is typically meant to be a place of business, whether that be a home-based internet business or a crafting business, or simply a place to organize and pay the household bills. This often leads to a room full of less-than-visually-pleasing items and home decor. Instead, why not opt for more beautiful storage solutions.

For example, create functional table decor by decorating a number of plastic cups to store various art supplies or office supplies in. You can store pencils, pens, scissors, push pins, paint brushes and various craft supplies in these cups. Then, they’re visually appealing and functional storage. Perfect for an office space.
Focus on Wall Art

Even if you’ve got tons of paperwork everywhere (perhaps you’re more of an ‘organized chaos’ type of person), you’ll want to add some visually pleasing wall art to the space. Choose wall decor that suits a certain mood, especially for a home office or craft space. Avoid paintings and photographs there are depressing or moody, as they can be be counterproductive for you during the day. Opt for cheerful, beautiful and inspiring prints and leave the thought provoking, moody pieces for other spaces in your home.
Add Color

Working from home can be difficult, but adding color to the home decor of your office can help motivate you and keep you focused on the task at hand. Though there are colors that are known to be more motivational or inspiring than others, try to choose a color that inspires you, personally. Don’t be afraid to pull colors from the wall art you’ve chosen, or even to throw a favorite color onto the wall. Remember, paint can easily be changed if you decide you don’t like it!
Organize

Most importantly, you can’t be organized if you don’t give yourself organizational solutions to begin with. So, don’t be afraid to hang a calendar or provide yourself with checklists, various storage tubs and much, much more. While you’re at it, throw in a wall clock to keep yourself on track with the time. Other options for storage can include decorative storage boxes for your paperwork, filing organizers, labeled boxes, magnetic boards, bulletin boards and so forth.

Remember, whether you work from home or just pay the bills, having a functional, organized but beautiful home office space is important. Good home decor can be motivating in it’s own right, so don’t be afraid to throw in a few home accessories. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
