Old doors can be found at antique marts, flea markets and new ones can be found at your local home improvement store. For the most part they are inexpensive and extremely versatile in design and decorating. In fact, usually the less expensive a door is, the more it can be enhanced for use as wall art or decor. Wall art? Did you fall out of your chair without surprise? Yes! A plain door (without panels) can be primed and then painted as if it were a raw canvas for a fraction of the cost!

This one (above) is simply painted like wallpaper. It gives the room interest without you having to painstakingly detail an entire wall. To do this, simply use painter’s tape in the same manner you would paint a room. Of course, on a smaller scale, the task of creating art seems a bit more “doable” for most.

Do you like wall hangings? Well, this door (above) was painted with the simple word “love” and it was hung above the bed – instant art! Currently the color yellow is such a wonderful addition to any room. This yellow paint that was used for the letters is fresh and works well with this rustic, yet elegant, feel of the door.
Consider using your digital photography skills and showcase them in an unusual manner – use a door to frame the photos of your family, local architecture… perhaps even consider photographing individual letters to create your family’s name. Inset panel doors (also known as “Shaker style”) work extremely well for this DiY project. Additionally, you can add trim to a standard flat door that doesn’t have panels.
What about something everyone can use? Need a headboard for one of your bedrooms? Consider using a paneled door (raised panel or inset), adding moulding and creating a unique addition that any guest, family member (or even you) could appreciate for sleepy time! (below)

And then, there’s always furniture…
A table out of an antique door works, but so does a new door. Consider also using the idea in a closet where you need a desk for a hidden work space.

A door is a perfect size for a coffee table. Consider the material of the door and the sturdiness of it. You can mount the door on an existing top of a coffee table for architectural interest or even use pipes and flanges (in the plumbing department). What about putting your coffee table on wheels (below).

There are so many options for a door. All you have to do is keep your mind open and think out of the box. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
Like the idea of transforming an ordinary door into a new table? Then dress it up with some table decorations!

When it comes to home accessories and decor, there are a lot of items out there and thus, a lot of different patterns, colors and textures. In fact, it’s not unusual for a person to fall in love with two or more home accessories with different patterns or color schemes. That being said, home decor still needs to flow properly, even if multiple patterns are used. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to use multiple patterns in a single room.
Select a Scale

When you use multiple patterns on home decor, an easy way to blend these patterns together is by selecting patterns that feature the same scale. For example, if you have chosen a large pattern, you’ll want to choose other patterns that are also equally large in scale.
This can apply to curtains, furniture upholstery, throw pillows, rugs and so forth.
Add Solid Colors

Though you may love your patterns, it’s important to add a few pieces into the room that feature solid colors.
Solid colors can help break up the space visually, letting each pattern stand on its own rather than forcing the competing patterns to rely on one another.
Size on Size

Outside of choosing multiple patterns that are equal in size, another option that many interior designers use is the size on size concept. For example, if you choose a medium sized pattern, you should use it on a medium sized home accessory such as an ottoman or a throw blanket. On the other hand, with a small scale pattern, you’ll want that to be seen on a smaller item such as a throw pillow or a small piece of wall art.
Similar Styles or Color Schemes

Finally, another option also used by professionals is the use of patterns that feature similar color schemes or similar styles. This particular path may be more time consuming and may not be as easy to achieve, as it does take a professional eye to spot patterns that will mesh well; especially when you’re not focusing specifically on the pattern size.
Think Outside the Fabric

Patterns aren’t just found on different fabrics for upholstered furniture, drapery and other home accessories. It can also be found on a number of different items including wooden furniture facades, charger plates, frames for wall art, the wall art itself, and so forth.
Don’t Be Afraid to Mix and Match

The most important thing to remember when choosing different patterns is to not over-think things and allow yourself to mix and match different patterns. Home decor doesn’t have to be perfect, life isn’t a magazine! If you love two different fabrics but you think they don’t match, you may be surprised to find that chances are they really do and you’re simply over-thinking things. Most people are drawn to similar items, and that also applies to patterns in home accessories, so keep this in mind when you’re mixing and matching different patterns. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

There are dozens of home accessories that you need to pick out for every individual room in your home. These accessories complete the overall look of home decor, but decorating a dining room can be a tricky task. Though you may have breezed through choosing the home accessories and decor for the room, you may find yourself stumped when it comes to choosing the right wall art for your dining room. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to find the right wall art.

In a dining room, the wall art is typically a focal point unless another architectural element is present, such as the fireplace. Choose wall art that brings attention to itself rather than just being present in the background.

Keep in mind that wall art doesn’t have to be massive, either. In fact, a grouping or collage of photos or small paintings or prints can make just as much of a statement as a larger scale piece of wall art.

Look at wall decor as a chance to complete and compliment the overall design of a room. It’s important that your chosen wall art compliment and reflect the overall style of the room. For example, if you’ve decorated your dining room with a dining set that is traditional in style, you wouldn’t want to put up a painting that is abstract or modern. It would look entirely out of place.
Creative Ideas for Dining Room Wall Decor
There are a number of great ideas that can suit your dining room. For example, consider hanging empty frames in a collage on your wall. You can paint each frame a different color in your color palette, which will help to draw attention to the artwork and help to create a true focal point for the room.

Wall decals are another option. They’re inexpensive, easy to obtain and come in hundreds upon thousands of different designs. Plus, wall decals won’t damage your walls and they can be removed and updated as your taste changes or it can change with the seasons. For example, you could have a blooming cherry tree in the spring and summer, a tree with leaves in fall colors (think red, orange and yellow) and then a tree with no leaves in the winter.

Depending on the style of your dining room, you may find that vintage posters and prints are the perfect wall decor for your dining room.

If you’re stumped or can’t seem to find the right wall decor, consider using shadow boxes. You can put a number of different items into the shadow box, allowing you to customize the look and ensure it matches the overall style of the room.

Last but not least, consider using a piece of metal wall art. Metal is a versatile medium, it can be twisted into thousands of different shapes and patterns and comes in a number of different sizes. Plus, it can be painted or it can be molded to replicate a specific texture.

Redesigning or redecorating a room can be a blast. From bathrooms to the kitchen to the whole house, redecorating is not only fun, but it also increases the value of your home. For those of us on a tight budget, it can be a battle to just get paint on the walls. But it doesn’t have to be hard to get the most bang for your buck when it comes to redecorating with home decor. Use these tips and techniques for decorating on a budget and you’ll be sure to get a look you’ll love, with a price to match.
Wall Coverings

Kerrie Kelly Design Lab (via)
Many people who are decorating on a budget dip right into their redecorating and go for a paint color of their choice. While paint is okay, it’s just that—okay. Get the most out of your painting project by using a painting technique to create a fluffy, soft, or edgy feel to any color in the rainbow. Strie, sea sponge dappling, and crosshatching glaze are just a few of the many painting techniques that cost only a small amount more than a bucket of paint, yet create a look that shouts opulence. With the addition of cheap chic wall art, vinyl graphics, or garage sale treasures like wall tapestries or paintings, you can finish your wall coverings with a cheap but elegant style.
Refurnishing Furniture

Michelle Workman Interiors (via)
You don’t have to be a master woodworker or reupholstery expert to repair used or neglected furniture. The dreary dresser, hopeless side table, or expired accent chair can all be easily and cheaply repaired to create a new and beautiful piece of furniture for any room in the house. Combined with the paint and supplies you used for redecorating the walls, a new coat of paint on your used and abused furniture can turn it into brand new once again. Simple reupholstery can be performed on most chairs and couches with ease. Just buy a premade cover and slip it over your old couch or loveseat for the perfect new furniture set at the perfect price.
Lighting

Sometimes light can make all of the difference in your new design. For just a few bucks, you can easily refurnish a used antique light fixture that would cost a fortune to reproduce. Basic lights like track lighting or task lighting can add to your design and they are perfect for accenting pictures, artwork, or oval mirrors for the ultimate in cheap design. Wall sconces create a unique lighting display along hallways, bedrooms and bathrooms. Ceiling lights add the perfect touch to bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms with minimal renovation or rewiring required. LED lights add to the savings for the perfect budget lighting design.

A staircase is an area that many people don’t think about decorating first. And when they finally get around to it, they might hang a framed picture or two but… really decorate with unique home decor or home accessories? The question is: Why not?
This is an area that is travelled several times throughout the day and evening. It’s an area that screams for a decorative touch. And, with a little creativity, this is a place to create show-stopping drama. Ok look, if you must decorate your staircase with photos, opt for black and white framed photographs. They are timeless and you will never have to Photoshop your colors to accommodate your interior decorating. (Yes, it’s a designer’s secret: Digitally enhance your colored photos to turn simple “point-and-click shots” into personalized art.)
Image via
Don’t have a million (or even more than a handful of) black and whites? Consider mixing your framed “people, places and things” with typography or other home accessories that personalize your space.
Image via
Don’t want to inundate your hallway-touring-guests with memories from the last 50 years? Finding wall art that speaks your language could be your salvation. Metal wall art is trending right now in contemporary and transitional spaces and canvas art is easy to hang and comes in a variety of styles. If you have fabric with a graphic that you absolutely love, consider framing it and adding it to your “wall of wow” as well!
Another way to add panache (especially in traditional, arts and crafts or shabby chic interiors) is to consider architectural details to create lines and texture.
Image via
Wainscot, paneling and even beadboard can add a bit of “wow” to your stairway. Paint it the same color as your interior trim and you also have just added value to your home. Cha-ching!
Image via
In the photograph above: Sure the framed and staggered butterflies and graphics pop against the dark gray wall, but what you might not have noticed was the drapery panel on the landing. Landings are a great place to add a bit of drama, and a drapery panel (especially in velvet or taffeta) will break “boring” faster than one of those fancy drinks with an umbrella at an evening dinner with your in-laws.
One last thing: Many people put mirrors on the wall in the stairway. Yes, there is just something about a beautifully framed square, oval mirror, or even a standing floor mirror. But take heed and caution where you mount or place them in your stairway. Mirrors bounce light and can throw your sense of balance off when walking down the stairwell. Seriously, don’t hate…but you have been warned!

Your home décor design is more than just simple colors for a basic design. By employing the use of textures in your design, you can help create a substantial impact through not only sight, but also through feel and sound. Because textures in design tend to add a unique and layered element, they can easily fit into any design theme. Use this guide to using textures and you’ll be sure to get a great design element for your next decorating project.
Fabrics
One of the most common textured elements of any design scheme, fabrics can mimic any texture from silky smooth to coarse and rough. With simple tools like a pair of scissors and a glue gun, you can create fantastic fabric textures to walls, accent tables and other décor items for a chic take on textured décor. Fabrics work especially well in the bedroom as draperies, wall tapestries, and bed canopy covers.

(via)
But it’s not just for smooth and slick textures. Course textured fabric like burlap can add an awesome look to your design. When used as a wainscoting and in conjunction with rail molding, a country styled texture is created that matches perfectly with antique furniture and quaint country décor. Neutral tones and pacified colors make for a deep design that is layered with gorgeous textures.
Paints
Believe it or not, paints can add a layer of texture to any décor item, walls or accent furniture’s that you can paint. By using different aggregates, textures similar to sandpaper, popcorn or adobe can be simulated on almost any material that accepts paint.

(via)
By adding joint compound to paint, a layered stucco look can be made that compliments many home décor and design themes like Tuscany, Mediterranean and calypso. Mix joint compound into a fine slurry, let set for 15 minutes and paint on using a heavy nap roller cover for a rough stucco textured paint. Knock down any ridges with a wide and flexible drywall knife to create a knock down lace paint pattern. With the addition of accent lighting and small mirrors, depth and textures are highlighted even more.
Wood
Natural and beautiful, wood creates the ultimate in rough and ready textures that are suitable to almost any design theme. From the mantle over the fireplace to fine wood trim and baseboards, wood can play an important role in achieving textured designs that mimic Mother Nature. Even when wood is sanded smooth and finished with a clear coat of sealant, it still retains a deep character and hard texture beneath the smooth surface.

(via)
Rough wood surfaces give an aggressively dark and rustic feel to any area in the home. From the deep textures of rough sawn cedar to the light and soft feel of cork wood flooring, textures play an important role in developing any design that offers wood as either its centerpiece or backdrop.

An empty wall is like a dead canvas untouched by a painter’s brush. Without anything to grace its expanse, it is but a dead sight to the eyes. So put some fire into your home’s interior, investing on wall arts such as paintings, framed mirrors, tapestries and others is a big must.
But just like in the world of fashion where gowns and shoes that are in fad today will be obsolete tomorrow, the trends in wall art home interior design is also just as fickle and ever changing. To give you some updates, here are some of the latest trends in the subject:
Light Show
When you decide that your wall needs some make over, your mind would go over paintings, tapestries, and other home décor items. But did you know that you could also use light as a wall décor?
And no, this is not about light fixture installations that you know of. This is about creating an image on the wall by letting the light pass through an object and cast a larger shadow. Below is an excellent example of such wall art:

(via)
Highlight & Emphasize
Another common approach to wall decoration is placing flower vases and other decorative items next to the wall. This is still in fact today and still widely used by interior designers. An update however requires the use of recessed lights to highlight the decorative item.
This way, the finer features of the decorative item will be emphasized more. Also, it will remain visible even after sleeping hours, if you choose to keep the light on. Here is an example of emphasizing a flower vase with recessed lighting:

(via)
Sophisticated
Another wall art idea for contemporary home interior designing is to go for sophisticated or abstract wall paintings. While in the past wall paintings feature clear images and subjects such as nature and cities, this time around the subject is more abstract.
(via)
The Yosemite Home Decor Reflection II Hand Painted Contemporary Artwork shown above is an excellent and brilliant example of abstract and modern wall art. The sophistication created by lines and forms are modern to the very core. This is the new trend that will replace paintings of forests, mountains, birds, and flowers.
So do you find these latest updates to modern wall art useful? Take a closer look at these works of arts because these are the current and the future of wall designing. They are the fad of the season and there is no sign that they will die out soon.

During the construction stage, you may have given a lot of effort in making sure that the walls of your house are in perfect condition. And there is nothing wrong with that. A clean wall with nice finish is excellent. What is not excellent is if you leave it as it is and only focus on filling the house with furniture and other decorations. A wall hanging , needless to say, is a necessity.
Now forget about all those hearsay you will hear left and right telling you that all you need is a great paint or great wallpaper. No matter how stunning it is, an empty wall is boring. So give justice to all the efforts you made in making sure that your wall is in top shape. Do consider investing in wall hanging and wall tapestry decors.

To entice you more, perhaps it would be a better idea to tell you why the use of wall hangings and wall tapestries is such a great idea. The following lists explains some of the advantages of using these home décor ideas:
Gives Life To Boring Blank Walls
The first and most obvious reason is that a good wall hanging will make your rather boring wall look exciting so when your friends and other guests do come in, they will not be faced with a black hole of nothingness but will be awed by an artistic interior design idea.

‘Fine Art Tapestries Botanicals Van Goghs Irises Wall Tapestry / Wall Hanging’ (via)
With a wall hanging, you can also mix and match. Who said that there should only be one hanging wall tapestry for each side of your house? You can place matching designs and come up with either symmetrical or asymmetrical arrangements.
Alternative To Expensive Paintings
Another wonderful reason why going for wall hanging and hanging tapestry is such a great idea is how it can save you substantial cash. But how is that possible? Do you remember those beautiful paintings you see on art exhibits? They look nice right? But they are also extremely expensive.

‘Fine Art Tapestries Animal Butterfly Dragonfly I Wall Tapestry / Wall Hanging’ (via)
With wall hanging decors, you can have the same effect for so much less. There are wall hangings and tapestries that look just as great as real paintings and they can also feature rich variety. There are those based on nature, animals, scenes, and others.
Smart Way Of Hiding Imperfections
You may have given a lot of effort in making sure that your house is in prim condition but make no mistake, your house is not immortal. It will slowly succumb to wear and tear and cracks and other imperfections will reveal themselves in time. Luckily, wall hanging tapestries can be used as a smart solution.

‘Wall Art Tapestry’ (via)
All you have to do is order an appropriately designed and appropriately sized hanging wall tapestry and hang it over the affected area and viola! Problem solved. Now unless there is a badly curious guest who will flip it over, the imperfections will stay hidden for good.
So are you convinced yet? Of course you are! Getting a wall hanging home décor will never do you wrong because it has been proven and tested by professional home décor artists since early times.

Modernization is becoming quite an epidemic. It is spreading fast and just about everything is becoming subject to modernization. You name it – clothes, furniture, homes, food, and even people. It’s not really a bad thing because it has its own unique beauty. But once in a while, there are homeowners who’d prefer the timeless classics when it comes to style.
In this day and age of highly modernized styles and designs, a home with a classic touch is a sight to behold. And this is not only due to its rarity, but to its unique appeal as well. Classic is elegant, gorgeous, and somewhat dramatic. It is indeed a great choice for the sophisticated. If you want to be different, the classics will not fail.

‘LBL Lighting Dome-SI Coax Modern / Contemporary Pendant Light’ (via)
So how do you pull off a classic look in your house? Well, it does not really matter if the very construction of your house is initially planned to be modern. With the right interior designing you can do on your own, you can pull off an elegant and timeless design. Here are some pointers on how to pull it off:
Earthy Warm Tones
When choosing colors, you should only dwell around the warm and earthy tones. Usually, these are shades of brown, amber, rust, flesh, and different tones of gray and white. But the selection of colors is not limited to these. It can be any color as long as the mood is blunt and somewhat faded.

‘Contemporary Living Room Warm Earth Tones’ (via)
Where do you apply this selection of colors? These ideas should be applied in your choice of paint, furniture, wall hangings and everything else that becomes part of the house. In any case, all of them altogether should harmonize.
Antiques and Pseudo-Antiques
Now here is a fine coup de grace. What else could be the best way to make your home look classic than to add some real classical stuff? Antiques of course have a presence that really gives any place a feel of time travel to the past. If you have the resources, it makes a fine investment.

‘Uttermost Asita Yellow Traditional Bottle Set’ (via)
But these do not have to be real antiques. You can now find plenty of pseudo-antique items in the market. These items are made to look old but they are actually not. As a result, they are priced much less. These can be tabletops, wall hangings, vases, furniture, and other household items.
Fine Works Of Art
Revisit movies and perhaps browse some photos of old European homes and Palaces, what do you see? They are studded with paintings, statues, and other fine works of art. Yes, adding a collection of these into your house will surely pull off a classical look.

‘Uttermost Bordered Tree Hand-Painted Wall Art’ (via)
But real works of art done by real and pedigreed artists will certainly cost a fortune. Even if you do have that fortune, it is refreshing to know that there are cheaper alternatives. Framed prints for example can be a good replacement for a painting. And arts done by contemporary and young artists are usually cheaper.
So there you go. Surely though, there are so many other ways to make your house look more classic. But these three tips will usually be enough to do the trick. But since this kind of designing requires that everything from floor to ceiling should harmonize and blend, it may be wise to call a professional interior designer.
