If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to update your home decor, you may want to consider looking at your family tree. It’s true, your family tree can make one of the most beautiful home accessories you’ve ever had, at least in terms of wall decor. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to incorporate your family tree in with your home accessories and decor.

The family tree is the perfect way to add a healthy dose of personalization to your home. People all over America are looking to return to their roots, and this means getting back in touch with their families.

If you’re looking for an easy solution to recreate this look, check out online retailers for wall decals. Wall decals are easy to apply. Once you’ve found the right wall decal, you can take one of two routes. First, you can complete this wall decor using customized wall decals with the names of your family members. If you’re looking to go even more personal, then you can attach framed photographs of each family member to the family tree. You could even mix and match for a custom look if desired.

Those who are a bit more creative may want to look at other options. In general, this type of wall decor is relatively inexpensive; though depending on what look you are going for, it can get a bit pricey. With that in mind, why not create your own wall art using colorful scrapbook paper? You could easily cut out circles or squares and add photos of the family to create a modern, whimsical and artsy look.

Another option includes creating your family tree entirely out of just the names of your family members. This creates a clean but personalized look. Depending on your budget, you may want to invest in shelves to display photographs of the different people in your family tree. Don’t be afraid to mix and match frames, or if possible, have your family members pick out a frame that best represents their personality for a truly custom look for your family tree wall art.

Just remember, if you’re planning to sell in the very near future, you may not want to put the time or effort into putting up this type of wall decor. While it is a fantastic and trendy idea, it is a personalized look that your realtor will likely ask you to remove. If you’re not selling, then don’t be afraid to go all out for this trendy wall decor look. After all, no one can mimic your family true. It is yours and yours alone! Images 1| 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

When it comes to home accessories and decor, there are a lot of items out there and thus, a lot of different patterns, colors and textures. In fact, it’s not unusual for a person to fall in love with two or more home accessories with different patterns or color schemes. That being said, home decor still needs to flow properly, even if multiple patterns are used. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to use multiple patterns in a single room.
Select a Scale

When you use multiple patterns on home decor, an easy way to blend these patterns together is by selecting patterns that feature the same scale. For example, if you have chosen a large pattern, you’ll want to choose other patterns that are also equally large in scale.
This can apply to curtains, furniture upholstery, throw pillows, rugs and so forth.
Add Solid Colors

Though you may love your patterns, it’s important to add a few pieces into the room that feature solid colors.
Solid colors can help break up the space visually, letting each pattern stand on its own rather than forcing the competing patterns to rely on one another.
Size on Size

Outside of choosing multiple patterns that are equal in size, another option that many interior designers use is the size on size concept. For example, if you choose a medium sized pattern, you should use it on a medium sized home accessory such as an ottoman or a throw blanket. On the other hand, with a small scale pattern, you’ll want that to be seen on a smaller item such as a throw pillow or a small piece of wall art.
Similar Styles or Color Schemes

Finally, another option also used by professionals is the use of patterns that feature similar color schemes or similar styles. This particular path may be more time consuming and may not be as easy to achieve, as it does take a professional eye to spot patterns that will mesh well; especially when you’re not focusing specifically on the pattern size.
Think Outside the Fabric

Patterns aren’t just found on different fabrics for upholstered furniture, drapery and other home accessories. It can also be found on a number of different items including wooden furniture facades, charger plates, frames for wall art, the wall art itself, and so forth.
Don’t Be Afraid to Mix and Match

The most important thing to remember when choosing different patterns is to not over-think things and allow yourself to mix and match different patterns. Home decor doesn’t have to be perfect, life isn’t a magazine! If you love two different fabrics but you think they don’t match, you may be surprised to find that chances are they really do and you’re simply over-thinking things. Most people are drawn to similar items, and that also applies to patterns in home accessories, so keep this in mind when you’re mixing and matching different patterns. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Home accessories and decor can be displayed in a variety of ways. When it comes to wall art, the possibilities are infinite. Of course, there are certain ways to display these home accessories that tend to be more popular. In home decor, presentation is everything. Here are the top 5 ways to display wall art in your home.
Grid Work

Among the top five is the crisp display where each frame is lined up with meticulously with the next, as well as the frames below (or above) it to create the appearance of a grid. You can create wall art grids that are two by two, four by four, even eight by eight if you so desire.
All in a Row

Keeping in similarity with the grid is the row alignment. Lining all of the frames of the chosen wall art decor in a crisp, neat line is a great choice. This is especially true if you are displaying prints of equal size, as it creates a clean look. However, it can also be used to line up wall art of varying sizes, creating an equally visually appealing look.
Additional Frames

Displaying framed wall art within a larger frame that is attached directly to the wall is a unique trend that is slowly growing in popularity. These work great in a number of home decor styles including contemporary and traditional.
Collage

Displaying a collage of different sized wall hangings is an extremely popular choice that has recently grown in trendiness. Collages can contain black and white photographs, prints, paintings of various sizes and so forth, all in one grouping. Since these displays are so versatile, it’s easy to see why they’re growing in popularity. There is no right or wrong way to create a collage.
A Single Piece of Wall Art

A single, large piece of wall art that dominates a space is among one of the most popular ways to display. It’s an easy choice, there is no necessary mixing or matching of frames or other wall art. Like the collage, there is no way to go wrong since you do not need to consult the different aspects of your display. A single piece speaks all on its own, it sustains itself and draws attention to itself, with little effort on your part.
When going this route, be sure to choose wall art that is proportionate to the room and the size of the wall. Choosing pieces that are too small or too large can look out of place or feel inadequate.

One of the best home accessories you could ever hope to buy is wall art. Wall art can be a great way to accent a room or display a collection. It’s also a great way to get around the restrictions specific to apartment-dwelling since most won’t let you paint your walls. But never fear… there are ways to get creative with your wall art and here are a few:

Here’s a foyer with wall art hung in the salon style. This style goes way back to the 17th century when art collectors would mount their pieces in one room, right next to, and on top of the other, so as to fit in as much work as possible. The reemergence of this style is much more paired down and refined and it is a great way to exhibit a large collection of art.

The English Muse
This captivating vignette is a great example of wall décor. Rather than hang dozens of framed photos, the designer has chosen to go with a mood board look. Recreate the look by tacking on your favorite photos, pieces of fabric, tear sheets and mini posters onto a message board. Hang it above your office desk for daily design inspiration.

Quint Essence
This is a great example of using a very large, blown-up picture to create the effect of an accent wall. These are typically stretched out pieces of canvas that are adhered to the wall.

Blogs.Babble from Elle Decor
Bet you’d never thought of using a map of the world to decorate your wall. It’s a trend that has increased in volume over the years.

Blog.2 Modern
Another trend that has emerged in recent years is the salon-style hanging of plates. Sometimes they are grouped along with paintings, or with mirrors, as you can see here. It’s a lovely practice that is exceedingly practical. Get the look by stocking up on vintage or antique plates from your local flea market, group them to your liking and hang them exactly as you would hang a painting.

The Decoroligist from Domino Magazine
There really are no words for how insanely gorgeous this office is.

Chateau Delu
Kelly Wearstler, design queen, capitalizes on the plate wall trend, seen here at the Hotel Viceroy in Santa Monica, CA.
Art is a great way to accent creativity in your home and it’s even better way to display your own creativity in how you choose to hang or display your wall art.

There are dozens of home accessories that you need to pick out for every individual room in your home. These accessories complete the overall look of home decor, but decorating a dining room can be a tricky task. Though you may have breezed through choosing the home accessories and decor for the room, you may find yourself stumped when it comes to choosing the right wall art for your dining room. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to find the right wall art.

In a dining room, the wall art is typically a focal point unless another architectural element is present, such as the fireplace. Choose wall art that brings attention to itself rather than just being present in the background.

Keep in mind that wall art doesn’t have to be massive, either. In fact, a grouping or collage of photos or small paintings or prints can make just as much of a statement as a larger scale piece of wall art.

Look at wall decor as a chance to complete and compliment the overall design of a room. It’s important that your chosen wall art compliment and reflect the overall style of the room. For example, if you’ve decorated your dining room with a dining set that is traditional in style, you wouldn’t want to put up a painting that is abstract or modern. It would look entirely out of place.
Creative Ideas for Dining Room Wall Decor
There are a number of great ideas that can suit your dining room. For example, consider hanging empty frames in a collage on your wall. You can paint each frame a different color in your color palette, which will help to draw attention to the artwork and help to create a true focal point for the room.

Wall decals are another option. They’re inexpensive, easy to obtain and come in hundreds upon thousands of different designs. Plus, wall decals won’t damage your walls and they can be removed and updated as your taste changes or it can change with the seasons. For example, you could have a blooming cherry tree in the spring and summer, a tree with leaves in fall colors (think red, orange and yellow) and then a tree with no leaves in the winter.

Depending on the style of your dining room, you may find that vintage posters and prints are the perfect wall decor for your dining room.

If you’re stumped or can’t seem to find the right wall decor, consider using shadow boxes. You can put a number of different items into the shadow box, allowing you to customize the look and ensure it matches the overall style of the room.

Last but not least, consider using a piece of metal wall art. Metal is a versatile medium, it can be twisted into thousands of different shapes and patterns and comes in a number of different sizes. Plus, it can be painted or it can be molded to replicate a specific texture.

A staircase is an area that many people don’t think about decorating first. And when they finally get around to it, they might hang a framed picture or two but… really decorate with unique home decor or home accessories? The question is: Why not?
This is an area that is travelled several times throughout the day and evening. It’s an area that screams for a decorative touch. And, with a little creativity, this is a place to create show-stopping drama. Ok look, if you must decorate your staircase with photos, opt for black and white framed photographs. They are timeless and you will never have to Photoshop your colors to accommodate your interior decorating. (Yes, it’s a designer’s secret: Digitally enhance your colored photos to turn simple “point-and-click shots” into personalized art.)
Image via
Don’t have a million (or even more than a handful of) black and whites? Consider mixing your framed “people, places and things” with typography or other home accessories that personalize your space.
Image via
Don’t want to inundate your hallway-touring-guests with memories from the last 50 years? Finding wall art that speaks your language could be your salvation. Metal wall art is trending right now in contemporary and transitional spaces and canvas art is easy to hang and comes in a variety of styles. If you have fabric with a graphic that you absolutely love, consider framing it and adding it to your “wall of wow” as well!
Another way to add panache (especially in traditional, arts and crafts or shabby chic interiors) is to consider architectural details to create lines and texture.
Image via
Wainscot, paneling and even beadboard can add a bit of “wow” to your stairway. Paint it the same color as your interior trim and you also have just added value to your home. Cha-ching!

In the photograph above: Sure the framed and staggered butterflies and graphics pop against the dark gray wall, but what you might not have noticed was the drapery panel on the landing. Landings are a great place to add a bit of drama, and a drapery panel (especially in velvet or taffeta) will break “boring” faster than one of those fancy drinks with an umbrella at an evening dinner with your in-laws.
One last thing: Many people put mirrors on the wall in the stairway. Yes, there is just something about a beautifully framed square, oval mirror, or even a standing floor mirror. But take heed and caution where you mount or place them in your stairway. Mirrors bounce light and can throw your sense of balance off when walking down the stairwell. Seriously, don’t hate…but you have been warned!

Framed pictures offer a wonderfully versatile way to show off personal photos, children’s artwork and favorite art. Sometimes, the framed pieces you have may be way too small to hang alone or you may already have quite a few groupings of framed pictures sitting around the house. Sure, wall groupings are a traditional way of displaying different size framed pictures, but this calls for creative and inventive ways to use framed pictures and show them off to their best advantage. Take these home decor ideas and come up with some ways of hanging and framing your own.

Creating your own art gallery in a corner of your home is an unexpected way to share your framed art and pictures with others. The designer of this room cleverly used shelves, the floor and chairs as easels.

A typical gallery arrangement takes on a whole new form by mixing unusual spacing with seemingly random placement of framed black and white family photos. Strategic placement of the table beneath and the vases atop it complete the collage.

Old bottles become frames for vintage photographs here, but you can choose your own current or old family photos or even decorative calling cards to place in differing size and shapes of bottles. Place bottles on a wall shelf or a mantle as seen here. Other design ideas include placing on a kitchen window pane.

The framed textile in this photo gives a very homey and warm feeling to the dining room. Do you have a favorite fabric you love? Other dining room design ideas include: think of framing one big piece or even dividing a piece into three sections and hanging them side by side so they make a whole when viewing. There are so many ways you can go crazy with hanging and framing textiles, have fun!

Using striking black frames to surround a group of windows makes them almost seem as if they are an inventive style of window treatment framing the view to the outdoors. Use nature photos or landscapes to carry the theme through. Hang around doorways within the home for a different look.

Framed white sea fans bring an authentic touch of the beach to this coastal dining room. Their symmetrical arrangement and square white frames set off the unusual shapes of the fans.

This French home is punctuated by the single petite framed picture hanging over the sofa. Its size balances out the tall skinny plant stand to the right of the sofa. It is very surprising but it actually works in this room.

The framed art collage above the bed is very eclectic and seemingly random. However, the off center design works with the symmetrical elements such as the wire chairs and the pristine white bed.

The tiny framed silhouettes look as if they are flowing down and around the corner of the room. The lamp cast a wonderful glow upon each. The variety of oval, rectangular and square frames adds just enough contrast to the otherwise similarity of the silhouettes.

This dining room design boasts some unusual prints set in an unusual way. Instead of mounting the pictures on the wall they have arranged them to set on the table and leaned against the wall. The house picture was left unframed which sets off the black frames on the other two pictures.

The world of art is a revered domain of masterpieces like the paintings of Picasso and Michelangelo. And interestingly enough, so many contemporary artists are still living up to the name of greatness. But with all these flair and extravagance, fame is perhaps stolen from the equally important frame of framed art.
Yes, the frames that encase these works of art bring out the beauty of the masterpieces. To prove this, try placing a wonderful painting in an unmatched frame and it will lose its glamour. Indeed, a framed art borrows much of its glory from its encasing. So to help you make the right choice, here are the things that you need to check when buying frames:
The Shape
Uttermost Abstract Spiral Traditional Wall Art
When it comes to framed art, think of ovals, rectangles, squares, and diagonals. Find the right match and select the right shape for a painting or a photograph. And although the conventional is always rectangles and squares, there are some that would look more dashing in other shapes. A single person portrait for example will do well with oval frames.
The Style
Tim Burney by Paragon Picture Gallery French Ornaments Traditional Framed Wall Art
For a framed wall art or any framed art print, the style and design of the encasing is vitally important. This will help bring out the hidden features of the artwork itself. To do this, the mood of the painting for example must match the frame. You need to ask yourself, is it French or Italian, is it Victorian, or Arcadian? And then find the appropriate style.
The Material
Candice Olson by Paragon Picture Gallery Branches et Sous Bois Transitional Botanical Scenic Framed Wall Art
The style maybe the same but the materials used may be different. And this makes a lot of difference for framed wall pictures, framed wall prints, and other types of framed wall décor. For example, artworks with earthy tones will do best with wooden frames. On the other hand, modern artworks will do well with metallic frames. As for plastic, it is usually used as a cheaper alternative – these are perfect for cheaper framed art prints.
The Simplicity
Joey Duncan by Paragon Picture Gallery Evening Solitude II Traditional Landscape Framed Wall Art
Next, you have to decide on the simplicity or the elaborateness of the frame and it has to match what is being framed. For example, a simple painting will do well with an equally simple encasing. Otherwise, the frame will upstage the painting. Similarly, a stunning painting deserves an equally stunning frame.
The Cost
Getting framed wall art sets can cost you a lot. So it might be a good idea to invest on cheaper ones. Make no mistake though, if you have the resources, it is still best to go for the premium ones. This is especially true if you will be framing expensive paintings. However, it is possible to find a good one for a cheaper price. A framed art does not always have to be expensive.
So for a stunning framed art, do give a lot of attention into the frames that you will choose. It could make or break the whole thing. Even if you manage to find a great painting, it will not mean much if the frame is not matching.

Modern wall décor has some very interesting ideas on what is beautiful. Simplicity is the key in this design philosophy and this is very much reflected in its prime examples. It may seem random but this follows a process that is carefully thought out. This creates a rather interesting visual experience.
Contemporary design states that anything that exists is already beautiful. It is this theory that baffles a lot of people. A simple brick wall plastered with paint is in itself a piece of art. In other words, simple is beautiful and less is more.
Joey Duncan by Paragon Picture Gallery Hiding Place Contemporary Scenic Wall Art Decor
While other wall décor relies on intricate patterns and vibrant colors, modern design is much more subtle. There are not much accessories, hangings and embroideries as well. Instead, straight lines and simple shapes are favored in their place. The result is a modest yet intriguing decorative piece.
On the other hand, modern art is not limited to objects placed on a wall. It was already mentioned that a painted wall may already be considered a work of art under contemporary design philosophy. It is quite common for modern architecture to include openings on walls and room dividers. In fact, it has become an element of contemporary wall décor.
These wall openings may be made of any shape and it all depends on the designer. Once again, simplicity is the key here and nothing that screams for attention is used. As a result, wall openings that are created are mostly cascading squares and triangles among others.

Modern design also makes use of modern technology. Picture frames are often overlooked when it comes to interior design. Thanks to technology however, they can be transformed into interesting decorations for your living space as well. Picture art is often created by pressing two glass panes against each other.
Modern wall décor is often used inside homes. Walls used to be nothing more than room dividers but now they enjoy a new use. With the help of wall decors, they now become major visual elements themselves. They also help in the even dispersion of natural light across a room.

- Bobby Sikes by Paragon Picture Gallery Me and You Babe Contemporary Figurative Framed Wall Art
Wall decors are usually included in the design of bedrooms and living rooms. Various elements are used to create different looks depending on what you want. Paintings, wallpapers, plaster and murals are among the most common options but there are certainly more. All these are cleverly combined to create an overall design theme for the home.
Even modern offices are now joining in the modern wall décor bandwagon. Inspirational and motivational posters are common sights around modern offices and for good reason. These not only add color to the place but educate the workforce as well. Panels of wood break the monotony of grey concrete and offer a more pleasing sight.
- Yosemite Home Decor Empathy Hand Painted Contemporary Artwork
Contemporary design is truly a unique concept in decorating your home. It relies more on fine lines and clean shapes. In other words, keeping things simple is the name of the game. If you are planning on decorating home or office, contemporary design is truly worth looking at.

So you’ve decided that it’s time to make that blank wall behind the sofa beautiful but what to do? Where to start with wall art and decor? So many home decor ideas and how would you know which would be the best for your home space?
Framed Wall Art (Photo Credit: Blog - Live Like You)
Picking wall art and decor takes careful planning and research. Things to keep in mind would be colour schemes, atmosphere and, of course, your own taste and likes. There are thousands of different types of wall art – from framed wall art creating a classic or contemporary feel to any living space or metal wall decor creating a more modern feel to a living space. It all depends on your personal preferences but let’s go into detail about all the different types of wall art and decor.
Metal Wall Art (Photo Credit: Ghar Expert)
First, let’s start off with metal wall decor. Different designs can be made out of metal to enhance your living space or office. The intricate way in which a metal piece is bent and twisted is an art form in itself. The good thing about metal wall decor is that it will be durable for years to come. Something to enjoy for many life times if looked after well by its owners. To add a modern twist to your living space, invest in metal wall art.
Secondly, we have abstract wall decor and canvas wall art. Abstract wall art is a modernized collection of vivid colours and unusual objects all matched together to create interesting wall art. Other pieces are a set of three matching paintings that when combined will create a full canvas or painting. This type of wall art can bring an eye catching quality to any wall and is very appealing to modernized home owners. Canvas wall art is similar to abstract wall art. This type of wall art has a relaxing feel to it. If you want a comforting feel to your living space, canvas wall art is to be investigated. Add canvas wall art or abstract wall art to the wall space in your living room, dining room, or maybe even an office.
Contemporary Wall Art (Photo Credit: HGTV)
Contemporary wall art is also eye catching and a beautiful set of works to make any room an interesting area to entertain guests in. Vivid colors, strange shapes and unusual pieces of art make contemporary wall art a popular choice for offices and living rooms alike.
As well as all these art forms of wall decor there is one type of wall art and decor that is overlooked very often. Wall hangings and tapestries bring an ethnic feel to a room and can be a very welcoming type of wall art. A wall hanging or tapestry will be the one piece in your home that will stand out from the rest and you can be assured that it is a piece that will be remembered.
The last type of classic art and decor for wall art to mention is Tiffany windows. A type of art that is so often overlooked in the past has now become increasingly popular and loved among interior designers across the world. Add a little style to your home with a Tiffany window and go find the art piece and wall decor that’s right for you today!
