Powder bathrooms are bathrooms that do not have a shower or tub. Usually they are located off of a main area and, because they are a smaller space, they are a great place to showcase your home accessories and decor. There are many things to consider when working on a design for your powder bathroom. For instance, bathroom lighting is important when thinking about this space, as many bathroom light fixtures are simply utilitarian and lack the “wow” factor; powder bathrooms need “wow!”
When thinking about decorating a smaller space like your powder bathroom, think about what style you want to portray. For instance, do you want a classic design and a more traditional space? Maybe you already have a pedestal sink or an antique chest with a drop-in sink to work with?
Traditional elements like pretty ceiling lighting (like crystal chandeliers) or elegant oval mirrors are always welcome in classic spaces, and they definitely tell your guests you surround yourself with elegance and class.
On the other hand, mirrors with square edges and pendant lighting usually lean towards a more modern feel for a space. Modern spaces don’t have to feel cold and unfinished. In fact, some of the best interiors have a modern touch.

The lines of the faucets, lighting fixtures, accessories, and home decor play a major role in determining “style” as well. The more detailed and intricate the faucets and lighting fixtures are in a space, usually the more traditional. And, the more straight or angular lines, usually the more modern the space.

Consider coordinating the finishes in your powder bathroom because… well, it is small. Your faucets, lighting fixtures and wall art will band together to shine as one beautiful space if you do.
When it comes to bathroom lighting, select bulbs with enough light to brighten the space, but be careful not to over-light the room. Your light should not be brighter than the adjoining exterior room, even if your powder bathroom does not have any natural light.
Regardless of style, remember that your powder bath can be a major statement in your home. It is a private space that guests will see, but it is also a space that needs to have a lot of “punch” because of its size. Definitely don’t go “boring” in this small room! If anything, layer your design elements to create a well designed, one-of-a-kind space that others won’t forget! Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

A bathroom without house décor is like a bathroom without water—it’s not going to go well. That’s why it’s important to come up with a good design plan before you begin any home improvement projects. Spice up your bathroom design with these basics of bathroom décor and you’ll be sure to get a great design that you’ll love for years to come.
Making a Plan
It’s in your best interest as with any home improvement project to create a list of your needs and wants. This can help you get a functional set of good looking décor items that pulls double duty in your bathroom design. A simple blueprint sketch up can be a good idea for larger bathroom spaces.

Display
Your décor isn’t going to show off itself. You’ll need to create a unique and eye catching display to showcase your décor in the bathroom. While items like wall art easily displays itself, table decorations need a good out of the way place to rest. Small benches, stools and ottomans with a flat wood or stone surface are the perfect out of the way space in the bathroom for your table top décor.

Displaying Décor Tip: Décor doesn’t have to lay flat on a tabletop surface to be displayed. Vanities, alcoves, cubbies and shelving all work in unison to display traditional task items like soap and towels as well as fashionable items like your favorite candle or flower vase on eye catching horizontal surfaces.
Mirrors
A mirror in the bathroom is not only a functional and necessary bathroom accessory; it can also be a fashionable one too. You don’t have to settle for the basic and bland rectangular mirror. Small oval mirrors set against a bare wall can make a huge transformation in your bathroom décor design. Mirrors help expand the room’s width and carry a reflection that plays perfect with natural and artificial lighting.

Mirror Décor Tip: Mirrors can work great in any design. But they don’t always have to be attached to the wall. Mirrors work well as a charger plate, makeup tray or soap display for the perfect horizontal mirror display.
Vanity Décor
The vanity is one of the best places to store and display décor. Home accessories like dried flowers, potpourri satchels, and glass figurines are all great vanity décor items for any bathroom display. Modernist décor makes use of toothbrush holders, soap dispensers and jewelry dishes to create a functioning and fashionable high-tech display.

Vanity Décor Tip: A vanity can be a really small place for décor and can easily be knocked about. It’s a good idea to choose décor that’s short and squat with a wide base to prevent spills and accidents that can break sensitive décor pieces easily.

Think out of the box when using rectangular wall mirrors to decorate. This classic piece often comes in very sturdy frames and thicker mirror widths that allow it to be used in more versatile ways around your home.
You can go the usual way and use the mirror to accentuate or redefine space in a home. Hang a rectangular mirror in an unused corner so that it will reflect the room around it. Think of it as framing the space, the way an artist would frame a painting. You will be surprised at the amount of ‘space’ it will create even in the smallest rooms.

Go for contrasts. Do not be boxed in by sedate sizes. Outlandish rectangular mirrors can be focal points in a room. Lean a big one against a corner. A vertical rectangular mirror can make it look like you have a higher ceiling. Pair this with contrasting wall corners to warm or cool a room.
Rectangular mirrors are unique because their shape allows them to be hung at an angle from ceilings or other spaces. Try hanging one over your fireplace mantel or the tops of high book shelves to fake more space. If you are an avid book lover, one of the more innovative uses of a rectangular mirror is to hang it at the back of a bookshelf. It creates the illusion of more books. To maximize the impact of this idea, try not to stack books the normal way. Try alternating stacks or piling books to give a homey as opposed to utilitarian effect. For a bigger effect in the living room, position two rectangular mirrors to create the illusion of more space.

A great way to use a rectangular bevelled mirror is using it as a serving tray for porcelain, silver or other family heirlooms. Bevelled mirrors are sunk a little deeper into the frame, making it a perfect choice for a serving tray. You can go the usual route and place silver wear on the mirror or use it as an interesting way to display other items. Take it a step further and use old rectangular mirrors as side table tops or table accents. It will definitely be a conversation piece at your next party.

Speaking of parties, using mirrors is a great way to set up unique decorations or for particular effects. Place a rectangular mirror by a bar or buffet to make a small dining area look bigger. For garden parties, use mirrors to reflect candle or lantern light into the party area. Displaying glassware near or in front of a rectangular wall mirror is a great way to show off a collection and perfect for kitchen areas. Take it a step further and organize beautiful charger plates in front of a mirror. You will be pleased at the vintage effect.
Remember, using a rectangular mirror does not need to be a boring choice as long as you put a little creativity into it!

It does not take a lot of money to change the look of your home. Adding some well-placed accessories can transform the feel of your home and make you enjoy being in it more than you did before. An easy and inexpensive way to add a new design element to your home is to decorate with wall mirrors. Mirrors are both practical and decorative, which makes them an excellent choice when you want to improve the look of your home. Designing with decorative wall mirrors can turn your home from a so-so space to one that makes a statement when people walk through the front door.
Mirrors have long been used for more than just looking at one’s reflection. Mirrors are an important element when designing according to the principles of feng shui. A properly placed mirror can change the energy flow of a room and bring in a sense of calm refreshment.

On a more practical level, wall mirrors can make a house seem larger. For example, if a mirror is placed over a mantle, the reflection of the room in the mirror makes the room seem larger. A mirror also gives a space the illusion of depth because when you look into a mirror, you are not looking at a flat static surface, but one that is full of movement. Placing mirrors on opposite walls can create a sense of space in a small room.
Wall mirrors can also make a room seem brighter by reflecting light. Placing a mirror on the wall opposite a window can help offset darkness. The natural light coming through the windows will be reflected in the mirror and make the entire room seem lighter. Natural light is much more comfortable to be in than light generated by electricity. Using mirrors this way is particularly helpful if a room is cramped or painted in a dark color.

Decorating with mirrors is something you can do without professional help. You can enjoy choosing the mirrors yourself. By using a few tools and a level to make sure the mirror is hung straight, you can transform the feel of a room with a small amount of effort.
One of the benefits of using decorative wall mirrors in your home is that you can find wonderful mirrors at good prices. When choosing mirrors, think beyond the traditional square and rectangular shapes. Even something as simple as a beveled edge can add an increased level of interest to your home’s accessories. Mirrors that are in the shape of circles, ovals, diamonds and triangles add an extra design element to a room. Hanging a row of mirrors or creating a mosaic of mirrors can create a creative and eye-catching focal point.

Finally, when choosing mirrors, don’t forget to consider the frames. While you should hang a mix of framed and unframed mirrors, frames can increase a mirror’s design potential. You can choose a sleek frame or one encased in ornate painted wood to match a room’s décor. Don’t be afraid to get a little creative. Bright colors or frames in the shape of flowers or other objects can inject an element of fun into a room.

Mirrors are an absolute must for any home. They brighten up a room. They make a small space seem bigger. They help add a touch of class. And they help you look at yourself, of course.
Yet the actual process of choosing a mirror is a bit trickier. A room may work for one mirror but may absolutely look out of place in another.
So what mirror shape is best for your space?
The dressing room
One of the first places that need a mirror is your dressing room. It may be as lavish as a self-contained room or as simple as your bedroom, but you absolutely need a long rectangular mirror that spans the length of your body. Mirrored wardrobe doors are especially effective for small bedrooms. Not only are you sure to scrutinize every inch of your body, but they can make the room feel twice as roomy thanks to all that light and space the mirrors bounce around.

The bathroom
An oval wall mirror or a square wall mirror is most frequently found in bathrooms. An oval wall mirror has a surprisingly softening effect on the brutally sterile look of many bathrooms. It helps to smooth over the sharp visual effects of jagged edges, ceramic tiles, glass covers and brass shower pieces. If you have a smaller, more compact bathroom however, then a square wall mirror will work just as fine. Make sure that it’s a bit fancy, though, so that it will help add a bit more life to the bathroom.

The living room
A round wall mirror or a large square wall mirror works fantastically well as centerpieces in the living room. They help fill up large chunks of spaces without conflicting too much with other decorative pieces. Whether you are going for a distinctly Oriental look or a classy Victorian one, the versatility of these mirrors will make decorating a whole lot easier on your part.

The corridor
One last place that could use mirrors is that tight corridor that seems to squeeze into you whenever you walk past it. Decorative round mirrors placed on the wall or on top of surfaces help to add a lot more room without eating up even more space. Just make sure that the mirrors are not too big or are placed on unstable surfaces. The last thing you want is breaking your elbow on a mirror or knocking one off the shelves.
