Wall Clock Envy – You’ll Have it Now!

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Today, wall clocks can be a statement piece or a work of art, rather than solely for time-keeping. With the invention of cell phones, iPads and other electronic with digital clocks, the analog clock had seemingly gone by the wayside, but a modern-day wall clock is definitely in and doesn’t have to be boring! In fact, you can create your own wall art with a wall clock kit purchased from your local craft store, but you will want to have a great design concept and the perfect place in your home to display it as well. Here are some unique wall clocks that we found to get your creative juices flowing:

Wall Clock Design

(1) A DIY wall clock is a functional way to put a personal touch in a room without spending an arm and a leg. When it comes to a creative DIY metal wall art, there are many head-turners to get inspiration from. One that we found, that has a unique twist, could be modeled for a basement, a kid’s room or even a craft room. Look at how each outer clock is actually set as the clock number.

Wall Clock Design

(2) Then there are the interactive tickers. These are fun, but can also be functional when it comes to organizing and serving double-duty.

Interactive wall clocks really take on a new and interesting form when you are able to do more than wait for 5:00pm!

Wall Clock Design

(3) If you are going to use a simple wall clock for a room, consider jazzing up the design by using a bit of paint to create a silhouette vignette. Below, the clock face is a textural addition to the painted floor clock. Fun and frolic should never be boring. Obviously!

So, forgo digital when you are in your home and consider going bold with style with a wall clock. Ready to tackle a new DIY project, or at least are there a little creative juices flowing? Share a link and tell us a little about your best “clock projects.” Images 1 | 2 | 3

Accessories That Every Home Should Have

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

When it comes to decorating, there are certain home accessories that every home should have. A room simply isn’t complete without them. Of course, this doesn’t mean that your home decor should look like your neighbors’. When choosing home accessories and decor, be sure to have these important essentials in your rooms.

Living Room Accessory Must-Haves

You can have any style of decor, but it’s always important to have adequate lighting. Be sure to have plenty of lamps, whether they be floor lamps, table lamps or ceiling fixtures. Your living room can be the most well-decorated room in the entire state but in the wrong lighting, it can look downright dreary.

Ceiling lights

Design Shuffle via

In addition, every living room should have adequate additional seating. This means having extra chairs you can pull out of the closet if need be. A coffee table ottoman that doubles as extra seating or various other types of furnitures to accommodate your guests can come in very handy. There is nothing worse than having too many guests and not enough seats.

Oval Mirror

decorica (via)

A mirror is another must-have for the living room. Mirrors help reflect light, which is beneficial throughout the day in different light levels. Furthermore, mirrors can help make small rooms feel larger or balance out awkwardly shaped rooms, such as a living room that is too narrow. For chic, contemporary decor, consider an oval mirror. For more modern or traditional homes, a square or rectangular mirror is best.

Wall Art

Archplanner (via)

Wall art is another must-have. Walls are meant to be adorned, even if it’s a simple statement piece or a complete metal wall art piece.

Office Must-Have Accessories

An office is all about organization. So it’s no surprise that you should have items like a bookcase or a filing cabinet. However, an office should also be a place that you can sit, work and enjoy your time in the space.

Wall Clock

Martha Stewart (via)

So, if this means you need to have a large collection of wall art, then go for it! Just be sure to throw in a wall clock or two so that you don’t lose track of the time.

Also, keep in mind that an office is a great place to display various collections or other items that you might not necessarily feel are workable decor items into other areas of the home.

Bathroom

The bathroom, whether it be a main bath, a guest room or a master suite, has a number of important must-have accessories. From a soap dish or a soap dispenser, to toothbrush holders to toilet brush holders. Though some of these items may seem a little cliche, they’re there to help keep your bathroom sanitary. After all, you don’t want to just throw your toothbrush in a drawer or throw your toilet brush scrubber under the sink with other items. That’s a quick way to spread bacteria and possibly even create mold or mildew.

Bathroom accessories

Design Shuffle via

Remember, even if you have these items in your bathroom, you can choose to store them in a cabinet or closet. They never have to be visible if you don’t want them to be! This is especially true if you’re going for a spa-like retreat or a minimalist or modern look.

In short, the accessories that complete every home are different. However, certain items, like adequate seating and lighting or wall art, can make a huge difference in a room.

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Your basement doesn’t have to be a smelly and damp place to store your old Christmas supplies. You can transform your holiday décor dungeon into a room you’ll love for years to come. Best of all, it doesn’t have to cost you a pretty penny to get your home décor ideas off of the drawing board and into your basement. Use this guide to get exactly the transformation you’re looking for in your old and tired basement.

Sealing the space

Wall Decor in Basement

DecorPad (via)

Because a basement is so close to the ground, it absorbs radiant energy from the surrounding soil, keeping your basement a constant temperature year-round. It also means that it brings in the surrounding moisture into the area making it a damp and humid place perfect for breeding mold and mildew. Control the moisture by sealing the interior space with a quality paint-on waterproofing agent and sealing the exterior space with foam insulation and a drainage system. This will solve any problems you may have with moisture so that you can get to work installing accent furnitures, painting walls and installing floor coverings.

Wall Coverings

Once you’re sure your moisture problem has been well taken care of, it’s time to dress up the walls with your favorite color or wall covering. Choosing a wall color is easy: simply pick a color that compliments your floor coverings. Cheap half and half wall designs like wainscoting and chair railing make for an interesting and cheap wall covering design. Wall décor like wall clocks can help fill in the blanks. Choose a unique wall tapestry for the basement entryway to create a space that’s folksy and welcoming. Oval mirrors can create the illusion of more space in any cramped basement space. Wall coverings don’t have to be basic and boring painted walls. With just a little budget and a little elbow grease, you can easily create the perfect budget basement home décor design.

No basement makeover is complete without furniture. But some furniture can be expensive to say the least. Use bargain shopping sites like freecycle to get great deals on an awesome table, a comfy couch and or an eclectic accent chair. Yard sales can make for a great place to find outdated furniture that’s still in practical shape. Simply get a spray paint kit that changes the surface into faux marble, crackled antique or strie glaze for the ultimate in cheap and chic furniture pieces. With the right table decorations, a good used couch and the perfect refurnished end tables, you can have a cheap chic basement design that costs just a few bucks but looks like a million bucks.

Budget Office Decor

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Just because you have to go to work, doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Kick up your home or work office a notch by decorating it with some fantastic home decor accessories. From stapler cozies to chalkboard wall paint, office decor doesn’t have to be expensive to look good. Use these tips and techniques for creating an office design on a budget and you’ll be sure to get a design you’ll love so much, you might not get any work done for a few days while you admire your creativity!

Accent Furniture

(via)

Accent furniture gives the home or work office space an instant comforting look and soft feel. It greets visitors with a lush seating area, offers a place to sit and wait as well as specializes in storing office equipment. What’s great about keeping accent tables in the office is that they work well with your desk design and offer a place to display your favorite pictures, figurines or décor items. A charger plate works well for storing and displaying similar items together on accent tables and furniture.

Wall Art

(via)

Don’t let boring and bland office walls go it alone. By hanging your favorite artwork on office walls, you can liven up the space without having to paint walls or change the office. Hanging artwork can easily be attached using a picture wire and hook. Most wall decor can be hung using this system, but some heavier or odd shaped art may need to be hung from a stout surface like a stud. Never hang heavy objects into drywall or cubicle walls. Always use a butterfly toggle to ensure it holds the weight without ripping loose when you least expect it.

Wall Clocks

(via)

An office runs on a schedule, so why not have a beautiful time piece to keep your schedule while at your desk? Best of all, it doesn’t take a huge budget to get a good hanging clock. From classic wooden clocks to the eclectic cuckoo clock, an office clock should be stylish and compliment the office colors well. What’s great about a wall clock is that they come in such a wide variety of styles, shapes and sizes, you’ll be sure to get the perfect clock for your office for the perfect price.

Globes

(via)

A globe is one of those office decor pieces that looks good but doesn’t really do much. Or does it? Many globes split open and contain a hidden space inside. Some globes have mini bars, some have pens and paper and some have safes. Whatever you use your globe for, you’ll be sure to have a unique office decor piece that’s going to make people sit back and notice your fantastic budget office design.

Chic Home Office

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Working from home can be tough. That’s why it’s a good idea to make sure your home office is decorated to suit your styles and tastes. This way you’ll be sure to get a functional workspace that doesn’t bore you to death. The chic home office combines both functionality with an eclectic beauty that transforms the tired and old home décor ideas into something that any work at home person would love to make a part of their daily work routine. Use these tips and advice for the perfect chic home office design and you’ll be ready to step out of the corporate cubicle and into the home office of your dreams.

Store it in style

Home Office Designs

Storage space in any office is at a premium and is always in high demand. Throw out the old grey aluminum filing cabinets and bring in the cozy cubbies. Cubby hole or pigeon hole storage creates a neat chic look with a great functional space for papers, pens, files, etc.—anything you need in a home office. A great way to create your own unique storage space is to purchase a quality accent table and assemble your own cubby storage beneath the table. Using MDF panels and a simple circular saw, you can easily create a custom set of notched panels to neatly fit all of your out of the way office supplies.

Raise your hands high

Home Office Designs

Shelving is a great way to accentuate storage as well as adding décor pizzazz to your home office design. Not only is it a functional space for books and other neatly stackable items, but add in a few decorative clocks, figurines or pictures of family and you’ve got the perfect mix of chic design and practicality. Shelving comes in many different forms. From the basic mantle shelf to the full-fledged bookshelf, shelving options for a chic themed design are typically painted in contrasting colors to the wall paint. This helps accentuate the shelf, making a focal point of the décor and not blending into the overall design.

Doing something different

Home Office Designs

The desk is one of the most important parts of any office space. But don’t settle for the typical rectangular office desk. Square, elevated and kidney shaped desks help bring a chic style to any office space. The accent chair should be a contrasting color to the desk to help bring out the desk as the focal point of the room. Separate the desk from the waiting room for your client with a picture frame folding screen filled with pictures of your past jobs for the ultimate chic portfolio.

A common area when redecorating your home, a wall can be a cheap place to start your home décor project—if you’re able to do the majority of the work yourself. Wall sconces add a versatile touch of class to any dining room, foyer, hallway or bedroom wall. Another great product that would do is the wall clock. These functional and elegant time pieces add a sophisticated decorative touch to any room on a budget.

Trim

Another affordable home renovation project is to install trims. Best of all, you don’t have to be a master trim carpenter to learn the basics of good trim work. With so many books, the Internet and videos on trim work, it’s easy to get an understanding of how it works. A small investment in a few tools and you are on your way to a beautiful and cost effective renovation project. Start with small projects like trimming a wall mirror, then work your way up to more complex projects like crown molding.

Trims

Home Decor In The Most Bizarre Forms: The Shape Shifters

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

For every home décor item, we have a standard shape and form in mind. If it is a bowl, it should be round. If it is a vase, it has to be pear-shaped. If it is a table, it should be rectangular or square. But it is with experimentation that fashion goes round. With new wild ideas, new trends are born.

In this blog post, you will find a collection of home décor items that went rebellious from their original and commonly accepted forms. See how they are different in a very stylish, unique, and glamorous way.

Bowls: Beyond The Regular Round

(via)

Do not think of bowls as just a round ceramic figure of circular and dome-shaped form. As a protest to the common, the Uttermost Goose Traditional Bowl takes the shape of decorative bowls to a new level. It has a beautiful hand rubbed tortoise finish with silver leaf details that is really something.

(via)

(via)

Another bowl design which beautifully deviates from the usual is the IMAX Gondola Bowls. Its distinctive boat-shaped design makes it a fine home décor item. Another exquisite item is the Sterling Industries Finch Bowl which still features the classical round dome-shape but adds a figure of two love birds on its side.

Tall Vases: Extraordinary Shapes

(via)

You have probably known vases to always have a pear shape. The curves may differ, but the concept remains the same. Some vases may even have fewer curves and be almost straight. But the Cyan Design Lg Sculptured Log Vase for example makes a big difference with its log design.

(via)

Also, the Dale Tiffany Serene Meadow Transitional Slender Gourd Vase is quite a rare find. It still features the traditional vase form but its neck, which is unusually long and slim, is curved and makes the illusion of movement.

Clocks: Unusual Forms

Decorative clocks can take many forms. It can be classical, it can be modern, and it can feature different materials from varnished wood to polished metal. However, the shape usually remains the same – that of the round or rectangular one.

(via)

As an escape from the common, the Nova Lighting Question of Time Transitional Clock makes quite a rebellion with its rather unusual shape. Looking at its strong futuristic details, it looks like something that came from outer space.

Accent Tables: Stylishly Different

(via)

Accent tables too are subject to norms. To be acceptable, they would have to be the regular rectangle, square, or circular. But the designers of Elk Lighting Floradora Transitional Table think otherwise. This table looks like it grew out from the soils of the earth with its floral design.

(via)

And if you want to be playful, the Uttermost Dice Traditional Accent Table will make quite an addition. It is also perfect for children’s room.

And these are just some items that rebelled from their original forms. And in doing so, they opened new style ideas that are in fact astonishing. To really accentuate the beauty of these items, try adding some bright lighting fixtures.

Decorate your Kitchen on a Budget

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

The kitchen is one of the toughest places to renovate, simply because it can be so costly to do just about any home improvement project. Cabinets, countertops, sinks, faucets and appliances are all very costly items to replace. Once they are in, they may stay in place for a decade or more, so it might be a wise decision to choose a kitchen style that suits multiple design themes so as changes in home accessories are made over the years, they will not clash with the existing colors and styles. This way, you won’t have to spend a fortune to redecorate your kitchen. Use these tips and techniques to decorate your kitchen on a budget and you’re sure to get the best looking kitchen for the best price possible.

Vertical Decorating

BRY Design (via)

When it comes to spaces in the kitchen, speaking in terms of horizontal and vertical designs simply means resting objects flat on a shelf (horizontal) or table or hanging things from the wall (vertical) or ceiling. Vertical decorations like wall clocks or decorative plates are a cheap way to add an attractive accent piece to any kitchen design.

Marcio Noia (via)

Backsplash decorations are a cheap and easy way to decorate the space between cabinets and sinks. Simple decorations can be easily painted on with a stencil and acrylic paint. Create your own stencil with poster board to save even more on your kitchen decorations.

Horizontal Decorating

Jessica Lagrange Interiors (via)

Because counter space is at such a premium in any kitchen, other horizontal decorating space must be found. Tops of cabinets make for a great place to put your odds and ends. Unlikely spaces like the ceiling can offer plenty of bargain decorating design ideas like hanging plants or your shining steel pots and pans.

Arcadian Lighting (via)

Since it’s so hard to bring in a table or other horizontal surface into the kitchen, sometimes introducing a few cheap pedestals can be a great place to decorate with a plant or sculpture without hogging up precious kitchen floor space.
